The Canadian Latin Heritage Association has played a very important role by providing an outlet for the Latin American community to preserve their traditions and enjoy the historical legacy of their own heritage.

We are encouraged by the leadership role of Public Health Units in the vaccination process and we know that health equity is a key consideration in regional plans to ensure efficiently and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. We know that during the pandemic, community health leaders and their partners have worked hard to build lines of trust and work with other community leaders and organizations to ensure that the COVID-19 Vaccine can reach many more people. Canadian Latin Heritage Association and Mississauga Latin Festival have created the “V-TOGETHER” campaign, which has been endorsed by the Canadian Ministry of Health, which consists in providing support to the vaccination campaigns that are being carried out in Ontario especially in the regions of GTA, PEEL, HALTON, and NIAGARA.

Mississauga Latin Festival is a multicultural annual event. Every summer, this three-day event showcases the music, food, art, dance, and performances from Latin America entertaining over 45,000 visitors per year. Canadian Latin Heritage Association has played a very important role in producing the Mississauga Latin Festival, providing an outlet for the Latin American community to preserve its traditions and enjoy the historical legacy of its own heritage, with the primary goal of preserving their the language, music, food, folklore and cultural richness as well as to integrate them into Canadian culture.

LATIN AMERICA HERITAGE MONTH

The Living Arts Centre, Canadian Latin Heritage Association and Latin American community partners were coming together to celebrate one of the most vibrant and diverse cultures around the world to celebrate the Latin America Heritage Month in the city of Mississauga. The event featured musical artistic demonstrations, dance, folklore, typical food tastings and art exhibition. The event was attended by different personalities including the Minister of Heritage of Canada

THE RAISING OF THE FLAG OF COLOMBIA

The raising of the Flag of Colombia on a flagpole designated by the City of Mississauga in Mississauga Celebration Square and digitally on the screens of Mississauga Celebration Square has become one of the most important events for the Colombian community residing in the city of Mississauga and its surroundings. The event is attended by personalities of the city led by the Mayor, councilors, Consul of Colombia in Toronto among other personalities the July 20th each year. The first raising of the Colombian flag was in 2018.

Carassauga, is recognized as Canada’s largest multicultural Festival in Canada. Carassauga’s vision is to organize a city-wide family friendly multicultural festival suitable for all ages to promote understanding, respect and co-operation among all Canadians of different heritage. On average there are 25 to 30 cultural pavilions represented. Latin America was present in one of the pavilions of this great festival showing the culture of its 19 countries.

LATIN AMERICA PAVILION – PANAMERICAN GAMES TO2015

During the TORONTO 2015 Pan American Games, CLHA was part of the team that organized the pavilion: “LATAM Pavilion” in the Distillery District where offering a sample of products from Latin American countries, national and community musical artists, international culinary demonstrations, classes of dance, and photography exhibitions. Locals and visitors had the opportunity to enjoy a diverse cultural, culinary, artistic and sports programming.

Colombian Independence Day is celebrated annually on the 20th July. The Independence Day celebration had something to offer for all tastes. An event with a great variety of musical genres, live artists, folkloric demonstrations with the rhythms of the different Colombian regions, in addition to enjoying delicious traditional Colombian food and much more. The event where Colombians and other communities, enjoyed the Colombian culture in a familiar and pleasant atmosphere, remembering their roots and traditions.

Christmas is perhaps the biggest religious holiday celebrated all over the world. However, not everyone who celebrates Christmas considers it a religious holiday. That is not usually the case in Latin America, though, as the population of this region includes the highest percentage of Catholics in the world. Latin Christmas Celebration, was made to remember one of the most Christmas rituals in Latin America that begin on December 16th and that represents Mary's pregnancy and the events leading up to Jesus's birth.
